Do you love reading? Do you love book clubs or recommendation lists? Do you have an interest in archaeology? If you said “yes” to at least one of these questions, we’d love for you to check out our book blurb videos, which are part of our upcoming Data Story, Of Mycenaean Men: Public Archaeology Book Club!
The book we’re highlighting this week is Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer. It explores multiple ways of doing science and saw a 2022 adaptation in the form of Braiding Sweetgrass for Young Adults. We’re excited by the renewed interest in this work, as Kimmerer published Braiding Sweetgrass back in 2013. That reminds us that Gathering Moss: A Natural and Cultural History of Mosses, a book Kimmerer published in 2003, is still on our to-read list!
Braiding Sweetgrass is the first book in our “What Are Data?” theme and we’ll be posting more videos about the other books in this theme in the next few weeks. You may even get to hear us talk about a few books we’ve mentioned previously in our AAI Reads! Series, so make sure to check back throughout June!
If you enjoy these videos, check in at the end of this month when we’ll be sharing the drafts for our Of Mycenaean Men: Public Archaeology Book Club Data Story. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the Data Literacy Program duo chatting about Braiding Sweetgrass. Happy Reading!
